Sameera Reddy
When actress Sameera Reddy was trolled for the way she looked postpartum, she clapped back at the haters. She stated quite nonchalantly that there were gorgeous actresses like Kareena Kapoor who could come out looking fully hot after childbirth. And then, there are people like her who take time (to get back in shape). ‘Pregnancy is such a natural process. It’s so beautiful. It took me time to (lose weight) with the first baby. Maybe it’ll take me time with the second baby. But what’s most important is to embrace yourself,’ she also said in an interview.
Her statement is a reminder to us all that each person is different and that we must be patient with our bodies. Losing pregnancy weight is never easy, and not all our bodies can bounce back just as fast, and this is what Sameera Reddy took out time to remind us of.
Neha Dhupia
Actress Neha Dhupia recently welcomed a gorgeous baby girl. But instead of celebrating the new life, trolls took to social media to try and make the actress feel bad about her weight gain. However, their vile comments didn’t get to the actress. Instead of staying quiet, the actress chose to stand up against her bullies. In a post that she shared on her social media account, she wrote, “I don’t owe anyone an explanation because fat-shaming like this doesn’t bother me one bit. But I do want to address this as a larger problem because fat-shaming needs to stop for EVERYONE and not just celebs. As a new mom, I want to be fit, healthy and energetic for my daughter. So I work out every day, sometimes twice a day because for me…’ Fitness’ is a priority and not ‘fitting into’ society’s standards regarding looks. And I hope in the future people are kinder to each other while making such vapid and vile comments.” Amongst other amazing things the actress has done, she also recently launched the Freedom to Feed movement, demanding that breastfeeding be looked upon with less taboo and disgust. On her social media accounts, she encourages her followers to start a conversation about breastfeeding and their experience with it.
Aishwarya Rai
Despite her stunning appearances postpartum, India’s very own beauty queen and actress Aishwarya Rai was still subject to vile comments and criticism after giving birth to her daughter, Aradhya. So how do celebrities cope with being trolled on the internet for postpartum weight Aishwarya Rai revealed in an interview with Rajeev Masand that she was able to withstand the trolling only because she had already faced judgment for so long.
Coping with the challenges of motherhood is never easy. After giving birth, a woman’s body is still healing. Besides having to care for herself, she also has to look after the new life she has just birthed. This can get quite emotionally and physically tiring. We all must remember that celebrities too are human and vile words and comments can sting and cause emotional distress. While one can only admire Kareena’s weight loss achievement after giving birth, not everyone can bounce back so fast. As Sameera Reddy said in an interview – giving birth is truly a superpower, and all women should be admired for having the strength to go through it.
